How do I know this fits what I have?
Go by the size or thread in the part name and measure before you order. Winterizing hardware is close enough between sizes to look interchangeable on the shelf and is not, and a plug or nut that is one step off will not pull down tight enough to seal.
What does a blow thru plug do?
It seals the line while still letting compressed air pass through, so you can plug the fitting first and clear the line after. The valve closes when the air stops, which holds the air lock in the line and keeps water from running back into pipe you just cleared.
Is it worth replacing the small hardware every season?
The wing nuts and seals are what fail, not the plug body. A nylon nut that has been cranked tight through a couple of winters will round off or split at the worst moment, and a flattened seal will weep. Both cost a few dollars and save you a return trip.
