What is a spa topside overlay and how is it different from a topside panel?
A spa topside overlay is just the printed sticker face that sits on top of the keypad — the layer with the button icons, brand logo, and labels printed on it. A topside panel is the full assembly: overlay on top, membrane switches in the middle, PCB and ribbon cable underneath. How do I install a replacement spa overlay?
Clean the existing keypad face with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely — any residue or moisture will keep the new overlay from bonding. Peel the backing off the new overlay, line up one edge with the corresponding edge of the keypad, and press the overlay down progressively across the surface (squeegee with a credit card or your thumb) so air bubbles get pushed out as you go. Avoid stretching the material. Most overlays use a permanent 3M-style adhesive that reaches full bond strength after 24 hours.
Can I leave the old overlay in place and stick the new one on top?
Yes, but only if the old overlay is still completely flat and fully adhered to the keypad.
