Every jet line, every foot of hose behind the shell, slowly accumulates a layer of gunk you never see, and that hidden buildup is a common reason water turns cloudy or misbehaves for no apparent reason days after a refill. System Cleanse lifts the layer off the pipe walls so it leaves with the old water when you drain. How do I run a System Cleanse purge?
Four steps, in order. 1. Confirm the water is at or above 90 degrees F, since the product works noticeably less well in cool water. 2. With the jet pump running, pour in the whole bottle, which is dosed to handle even a large spa. 3. Let it circulate normally for at least 8 hours, and overnight is ideal. 4. Drain the tub, wipe down the shell surfaces, and refill. Then resume your normal start up and daily treatment routine on the new water.
How often should I use this?
Once per drain cycle, which for most spas means every 3 to 4 months. This is not a weekly maintenance product and dosing it on a routine schedule wastes it. Think of it as the last thing the old water does for you on its way out. If you have never purged the plumbing, expect the first run to release a surprising amount of residue into the water before you drain it, which is the product working rather than a problem.
Why bother if I am draining the spa anyway?
Because draining empties the shell but not the pipes. Biofilm bonds to the inside walls of the plumbing and the jet lines, and gravity will not take it out with the old water. Refill without purging and that layer immediately starts seeding the new water, which is why a freshly filled tub can turn cloudy within days. Purging first is also the point at which to clean the cartridge, so run SpaPure Filter Cleaner on the filter while the spa sits empty.
