SpaPure Filter Cleaner (SKU PST-SPA3732CS40P, MPN C003732-CS40P) is a 1 pint liquid degreaser for spa cartridge filters. A spa filter pulls a lot out of the water and almost none of it is visible: body oil, lotions, dead skin, dirt and grease work into the pleats and stay there. A garden hose knocks off the surface debris and leaves the greasy film that is actually choking the flow. This cleaner breaks that film down chemically. The cleaner the cartridge, the better the circulation, the harder every other chemical in the tub works, and the longer the filter lasts before it needs replacing.

Do I soak the filter or spray it?
Either works, and they suit different situations. To soak, mix the full 16 oz into 2.5 gallons of water, submerge the cartridge for 30 minutes or longer, then pull it out and rinse it thoroughly. To spray, apply the cleaner straight into the pleats, let it stand 15 minutes, and rinse. The soak is the deeper clean and the one to use on a cartridge that has been in service a while. The spray is the quick touch up between soaks, and it is handy if you do not want to take the filter out of rotation for an hour.
How often should I clean the cartridge?
Every 4 to 8 weeks for most spas. Where you land in that range depends on your sanitizing system, how heavily the tub gets used, how many people are in it, and the size of the filter itself. A spa that runs most evenings will want the shorter interval. Two good signals that you are overdue: circulation feels weak, or the water needs more sanitizer than it used to for the same result.
Can I just rinse the filter with a hose instead?
A hose rinse and a chemical clean are not the same job. Rinsing clears loose debris off the surface of the pleats, but body oils and lotions bind into the fibers as a greasy film that water alone will not lift, and that film is what actually restricts flow. Degreasing on a regular schedule is also what extends the usable life of the cartridge. To cut how fast that film builds in the first place, run an enzyme such as SpaPure EZ Enzyme, which digests the oils before they ever reach the filter.
