The skimmer saver that gives before it breaks.
Original Super Gizzmo, 1 1/2" / 2" MPT, part GIZ2 is a winterizing skimmer protector stocked under SKU PST-GIZ2. It threads into the skimmer port and stands in the throat as a hollow body, so when the water left in the skimmer freezes and expands, the Gizzmo takes the squeeze instead of the skimmer wall. It also blocks the port, which keeps water from backing into plumbing you already blew out. A cracked skimmer is a wall repair; this is the part that stops it from becoming one.

How does a Gizzmo protect the skimmer?
Water expands when it freezes, and a skimmer full of water with nowhere to give is how skimmer walls crack. The Gizzmo threads into the skimmer port and fills the throat with a hollow body that collapses under that pressure, so the ice pushes on the Gizzmo instead of the skimmer.
What is the difference between the Original and the Super Gizzmo?
The thread size. The Original is built for a 1 1/2 inch MPT skimmer port, while the Super Gizzmo covers 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch MPT ports, so it is the one to grab when your skimmer takes the larger fitting. Check the port in your skimmer before ordering.
Do I still need winter plugs for the returns?
Yes. The Gizzmo handles the skimmer only. Blow the return lines out and plug them, drop the water to your closing level, and then thread the Gizzmo in as the skimmer gets buttoned up.
