Little Giant 6-CIA-RFS Big John Automatic Submersible Sump Pump

The Little Giant 6-CIA-RFS Big John is a 1/3 HP cast iron sump pump that moves up to 2760 GPH and switches itself on and off with a piggyback mechanical float, so it can be left to manage a pit, a pool vault, or a chronically wet equipment pad without anyone watching it. The oil filled cast iron motor housing lubricates the motor for life and pulls heat away during long runs, and a non-clog vortex impeller passes the grit that stops lesser pumps. Discharge is 1-1/2 in FNPT, and the unit is cCSAus listed.

What does the piggyback float switch do?
The pump plugs into the back of the float switch, and the float switch plugs into the wall. When water lifts the float, the pump runs. Unplug the pump from the float and plug it straight into the outlet to run it manually.
Is this a pool cover pump?
No. A cover pump lays flat and sips a shallow puddle. The 6-CIA-RFS is a sump pump that needs several inches of water to cycle, so it belongs in a pit, vault, or basin, not on a cover.
Why cast iron instead of thermoplastic?
Cast iron carries heat away from the motor, which is what matters when the pump cycles all night during a wet stretch. Thermoplastic sump pumps run hotter and generally have shorter service lives.
Can I hard pipe the discharge?
Yes. The 1-1/2 in FNPT discharge accepts standard threaded pipe. Install a check valve on the vertical run so the column of water does not fall back into the basin every time the pump shuts off.
