Should I buy the solid HD 1000V or a mesh safety cover?
Solid keeps everything out: light, leaves, grit and dirty water, so you open to the water you closed with. Mesh lets rain drain freely and weighs less to handle. The HD 1000V is the pick for heavy debris backyards and the cleanest possible opening; the 5000M or 7000MS mesh covers are lighter to install and need no drain management.
Does this cover need a cover pump?
No. Latham builds the Invis-A-Drain system into every solid cover, so rain and snowmelt drain through quarter-inch holes into a mesh filter and back to the pool. That satisfies the ASTM requirement that solid covers have a pump or built-in drainage, and it saves you buying and powering a pump.
What size cover should I order?
Order by your pool's water dimensions. A 18' x 37' cover is built for a 18' x 37' pool and the finished fabric is cut larger so it overlaps the deck and reaches the anchors on all sides. If your pool has a step section, order the matching step shape so the cover follows your outline instead of bridging the steps.
Can I install this myself?
Most owners do. You lay the cover out, drill anchor sockets into the concrete deck with a hammer drill and masonry bit, set the brass anchors, then stretch each spring on with the included installation tool. Wood deck anchors and stainless steel flush wall anchors for raised walls are available. Seasonal removal and reinstall are a quick two-person job after the first fit.
What is the difference between the 1000V and the 500P solid cover?
The 500P is a lightweight 7 oz solid cover, easy to handle and a good value, carrying a 12-year warranty. The HD 1000V on this page uses heavy duty 12 oz fabric for far more durability in wind, ice and sun, and it is backed for 15 years. Both use Invis-A-Drain.
Will water pool on top of a solid cover?
Not with Invis-A-Drain working. Keep the drain area clear of packed leaves and ice so water can pass through, and brush heavy wet snow off the middle of the cover after big storms. A blocked drain is the one thing that lets a solid cover load up.
