The Latham 5000M Standard Mesh Safety Cover for 16' x 32' Rectangle w/ Center Step pools (SKU PST-CSGM16321) stretches drum-tight over your pool on stainless steel springs and brass deck anchors, giving you a true barrier that helps keep children and pets out of the water all winter. The 5 oz micro weave fabric blocks 91% of sunlight and filters out debris while rain and snowmelt drain straight through, so there is never standing water to pump. Latham builds it with interlocked, double overlapped seams and backs it with a 15-year limited warranty.

The 5000M's micro weave fabric carries the highest abrasion resistance and tear strength in its class, so wind flap, ice and season after season of spring tension do not wear it thin. Every seam is interlocked and double overlapped, the perimeter is hemmed and sandwiched between double layers of webbing, and each strap gets box tack stitching with thread made to resist UV and pool chemicals. That construction is why Latham puts 15 years behind a standard mesh cover.

What is the difference between the 5000M, the 7000MS and the HD 1000V?
The 5000M is Latham's standard mesh: 5 oz fabric, 91% sun block, 15-year warranty, and the lowest price of the three. The 7000MS steps up to a 7 oz ultra-fine mesh that blocks 99% of sunlight and filters to 40 microns, with a 20-year warranty. The HD 1000V is a 12 oz solid vinyl cover that blocks 100% of light and debris and drains through a mesh center panel. All three anchor and tension the same way.
What size cover should I order?
Order by your pool's water dimensions, a 16' x 32' cover fits a 16' x 32' pool, and the finished fabric is made larger so it can reach the deck anchors. If your pool has a step section, order the matching step shape; those covers include a built-in 4 ft x 8 ft step extension rather than forcing a rectangle over the step.
Can I install this myself?
Most owners do. The first install means laying out the cover, drilling the brass anchors into a concrete deck with a hammer drill and masonry bit (wood deck anchor hardware is also available, and Latham offers 18 inch aluminum lawn tubes where there is no deck), then tensioning the springs. Every season after that, the included installation rod makes removal and reinstall a quick two-person job.
Do I need a cover pump with this cover?
No. Rain and snowmelt drain straight through the mesh, so water never accumulates on top. That is one of the main reasons owners choose mesh over a pump-style solid cover.
Will it keep algae out of the pool?
The 91% sun block sharply limits the light algae needs, and proper winterization chemistry handles the rest. Latham does note that in certain high-sun installations the 5000M can be less effective at minimizing algae than its 99% shade covers, so if you close early and open late in a strong sun climate, consider the 7000MS High Shade Mesh.
Is green the only color?
This listing is the green cover, which is the color we stock for fast shipment. Latham manufactures the 5000M line in green, blue, grey and tan.
Can anyone walk on the cover?
The cover is engineered as a barrier and designed to the ASTM F1346 safety cover standard, but Latham recommends that covers not be walked on for any reason. Keep it fully latched and treat it as protection, not a walking surface.
