The Jonas 3 lb winter BorateTab cartridge, part NJP0100201 and stocked under SKU PST-NJP0100201, is the larger of the two borate cartridges, sized for pools that need more buffering capacity to get through a closed season. It floats in the collar and releases borates slowly, holding pH steady while the pool sits with no pump, no test kit, and no one looking at it. That steadiness is what keeps the rest of your closing chemistry doing its job. The floating collar, part NJP10030, is required and is sold separately.

How is this different from the 1-1/2 lb cartridge?
Capacity only. The 3 lb cartridge carries twice the borate charge, so it suits larger pools or regions with a long closed season.
Can I run two cartridges at once?
Each cartridge needs its own floating collar. If your pool needs more capacity than one cartridge provides, run a second collar and cartridge rather than overloading one.
Do borates replace algaecide?
No. Borates buffer pH and make the water less friendly to algae, but a closing still needs a dedicated polyquat winter algaecide to actually hold algae back.
