Do I need to reprogram my controller?
Not when you are replacing an existing T-CELL-15 or GLX-CELL-15. Otherwise Hayward calls for setting the cell type to T-CELL-15 on Aqua Rite units from 2009 on (firmware 1.5 or later), Aqua Rite Pro and Pro Logic P4 and PS. Aqua Rite units from 2008 and earlier and the Aqua Rite XL need no configuration.
What size pool is it for?
Hayward rates the GLX-CELL-15-W for in-ground pools up to 40,000 gallons. Hayward's warranty excludes damage from installing a cell on a pool larger than its rating.
Does the direction of water flow through the cell matter?

Needed to replace the control overlay on our Nordic Impulse hot tub, but could not find out the make or model number of the actual control panel on our tub. By taking measurements and photos or our actual control panel button positions and functions, I was able to narrow down the options. I ordered this overlay as the button positions seemed to be in the right positions, even though the overall size was smaller than the control panel. The overlay works, in that all buttons and functions are in the right place, and the overlay seems to have adhered well to the panel. It is not a perfect match, as it is smaller overall than it should be. But I am happy with the result and will buy an additional identical overlay as a backup in case this one, too, deteriorates at some point. Took a lot of detecting, but the result is successful!
