The Pentair 59053800 center core (PST SKU PST-17-110-1218) is the one-piece standpipe and tube sheet assembly Pentair specifies across the 150, 175, and 200 sq ft Clean & Clear, Clean & Clear Predator, and Clean & Clear RP tanks. It keeps the cartridge centered and square in the tank, seals the clean side into the lid port, and routes filtered water down and out to the return line. Once the tube sheet cracks or the standpipe splits, unfiltered water takes the short path into the core and your filter stops filtering, no matter how clean the element is.

Which center core fits my filter?
Go by the square footage on your filter data label, not the tank diameter, because the shells look alike across sizes. Pentair splits the family four ways: 50 sq ft takes 59053500, 75 sq ft takes 59053600, 100 and 125 sq ft take 59053700, and 150, 175, and 200 sq ft all take this core, 59053800. One part covers those top three ratings, but they are not interchangeable with the smaller cores, regardless of what marketplace listings claiming one core fits every size tell you.
What does a failed core actually look like?
Lift the cartridge off and inspect the core on the bench. Look for hairline cracks radiating out of the upper tube sheet, a standpipe that has gone oval or split at a seam, and a lower seat worn enough that the cartridge rocks instead of sitting flat. Any of those means water is bypassing the media, which shows up as fine debris returning to the pool and a filter pressure reading that never climbs the way it used to.
Can I swap the core myself?
Yes, it is a hand-tool job. Shut the pump down, close the suction and return valves, open the manual air relief to bleed pressure, then drain the tank. Release the clamp band, lift the lid, and pull the cartridge and old core out together. Seat the new core squarely in the lower boss, drop the element over it, and retighten the clamp band evenly all the way around before you restart the pump.
