What does the flow cell do?
Hayward's controller manuals say the flow cell gives the pH, ORP and flow sensors a convenient mounting location while providing ideal hydraulic conditions to maximize sensor performance and life.
Does it need special plumbing?
Hayward's CAT 3500 manual says a pressure differential is needed to push clean, untreated water through the cell and across the sensors. It also says the flow cell and tubing must be drained before freezing temperatures, by purging with compressed air or draining through the valve ports and tubing connections.

Needed to replace the control overlay on our Nordic Impulse hot tub, but could not find out the make or model number of the actual control panel on our tub. By taking measurements and photos or our actual control panel button positions and functions, I was able to narrow down the options. I ordered this overlay as the button positions seemed to be in the right positions, even though the overall size was smaller than the control panel. The overlay works, in that all buttons and functions are in the right place, and the overlay seems to have adhered well to the panel. It is not a perfect match, as it is smaller overall than it should be. But I am happy with the result and will buy an additional identical overlay as a backup in case this one, too, deteriorates at some point. Took a lot of detecting, but the result is successful!
