The APC APCC7646 is a 40 square foot replacement filter cartridge built to drop straight into the Waterway Front Access Skimmer and other skim-filter housings that take the 6 inch by 7-5/8 inch element. It crosses to Pleatco PWW50-XP4, Filbur FC-3055, and Waterway OEM 817-0050, so if your old cartridge carries any of those numbers, this is the one you reorder. You get pleated polyester media, a molded handle on top, and a 1-1/2 inch SAE base that seats without adapters.

This is the 40 square foot version, which crosses to the Pleatco PWW50-XP4 and Filbur FC-3055. The same physical body is also offered in a 50 square foot media build under different cross numbers, so check the square footage printed on your old cartridge if you want an exact media match.
How do I clean it and when do I replace it?
Lift it out by the handle and hose the pleats from top to bottom to flush trapped debris, working around the full circumference. Replace the cartridge when the pleats stay gray after rinsing, the fabric tears, or the end caps loosen. Most cartridges run a season or two depending on bather load and water chemistry.
Can I install this myself?
Yes. Shut the pump off, open the skimmer lid, pull the old cartridge straight up by the handle, drop the new one onto the 1-1/2 inch SAE seat, and close the lid. There is no plumbing or tooling involved, so it is a one-minute swap.
