Technical Products #12 winter plug (SP212) is a rubber expansion plug for winterizing pool plumbing. Technical Products rates the #12 at 2.42" in diameter for 2" fitting. Push it into the opening and turn the wing nut: the rubber compresses, swells against the wall and holds the seal. Technical Products builds its plugs from rubber, stainless steel and heavy duty nylon, so nothing in the plug corrodes sitting in a line all winter.

Pipe, fitting or tube: which one do I have?
A pipe size means the plug goes straight into the open end of the pipe itself. A fitting is the socket or threaded opening a pipe slides into, which is wider than the pipe of the same nominal size, so it takes a bigger plug. Tube sizes are for thin-wall tubing. If you are not sure, measure the inside of the opening and compare it with the rated diameter in the specs.
Will a winter plug stop freeze damage by itself?
No. A plug keeps water out of a line you have already cleared. Blow the line out and lower the water below the returns first, then set the plug. Snug the wing nut by hand until the rubber grips; a plug cranked tight all winter is harder to back off in spring.

Dog chewed pool robot cord end. Ordered this fix it. Delivery was a little slow and I think some instructions should have been included as should have been a tiny allen wrench needed to tighten the wires into the plug. I got it done but think most homeowners would have a problem doing it. Other than these issues, the plug works fine and was much cheaper than buying a whole new cord.
Had a minor issue with pricing of a separate part in my order, but the sales team was responsive and reasonable, and worked with me to come to a mutually agreeable solution. In a world where character and reason has become the exception rather than the norm, they stand by their word and were committed to finding a fair solution.
