A pool pump shaft seal kit is one of the cheapest, highest-impact preventive maintenance parts you can keep on hand. A $40–$150 seal kit replaces a part that, when it fails, drowns a $400+ motor in a matter of weeks. Here’s how to pick the right seal kit for your pump.
What’s in a seal kit
A complete seal kit typically includes:
- Mechanical shaft seal (the ceramic-and-carbon two-piece unit)
- Pump body o-ring (between wet end and seal plate)
- Diffuser o-ring
- Sometimes: impeller screw, washer, and gasket
Match the kit to your pump
Seal kits are pump-specific. The wrong-size seal won’t fit or will fail immediately. The most common residential pool pump families:
- Hayward Super Pump → SPX1600Z2 seal
- Pentair WhisperFlo → PP1016 seal kit
- Pentair Dyna-Glas → PP3010 overhaul kit
- Sta-Rite DuraGlas → PP1016
- Carvin/Jacuzzi Magnum HF → 05380209K kit
