Spa & Hot Tub Bromine Generator & Brominator Systems

Maintain pristine, soft-feeling spa water with a dedicated bromine generator or brominator designed for hot tubs and spas. Bromine is the preferred sanitizer for spas due to its stability at high temperatures and reduced skin irritation compared to chlorine. PST Pool Supplies stocks electronic bromine generators, inline brominators, and floating tablet feeders from BluWater Technology, Gecko, GAME, and CMP — covering everything from automated in-line systems to simple floating brominators.

The BluWater Blu Fusion bromine generators represent the latest generation of electronic bromine generation — dual voltage (115V/230V), with topside control options and intelligent dosing that eliminates the dry skin, pungent odor, and tablet residue associated with traditional bromine feeder systems. The Gecko in.Clear bromine generator is a popular OEM-integrated choice for Gecko-equipped spas, offering seamless control through the spa's native topside panel. For simpler installations, the CMP Top Load Brominator accepts 1" bromine tablets directly and connects inline with spa plumbing for consistent, passive sanitization. The GAME Derby Duck and Derby Dolphin floating brominators are hassle-free floaters for smaller spas and above-ground applications — no plumbing required. For comprehensive sanitization systems, also see our pool and spa automation collection. For official BluWater documentation, visit BluWater Technology's website.

Bromine generators work by electrolyzing sodium bromide (NaBr) added to the spa water, continuously producing bromine on demand without the need for manual tablet additions. This method produces softer, more stable water chemistry with less pH fluctuation. All electronic generators in this collection require proper sodium bromide priming before first use — follow manufacturer startup instructions carefully. Inline brominators and floating feeders use pre-formed 1" bromine tablets and require monitoring and adjustment of bromine levels to maintain the recommended 3–5 ppm range in spas. For replacement parts and accessories, see our spa parts collection. Bromine safety and handling guidance is available from the U.S. EPA Safer Choice program.

Shop bromine generators and brominators and keep your spa water crystal clear, soft, and perfectly sanitized all year round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use a bromine generator or bromine tablets for my spa?
Both work, but they serve different needs. Electronic bromine generators (like the BluWater Blu Fusion or Gecko in.Clear) electrolyze sodium bromide added to the water, producing bromine on demand with minimal manual intervention. They deliver consistent sanitization, reduce chemical odors, and are gentler on skin — ideal for frequent spa users. Inline brominators and floating feeders (CMP Top Load, GAME Derby brominators) are simpler, lower-cost alternatives that dose bromine tablets passively. They require more frequent monitoring and tablet refills but need no electrical connection. For a high-use spa or a built-in installation, a generator is generally worth the investment. For occasional use or above-ground spas, a brominator or floater is often sufficient.
How does a BluWater bromine generator work?
The BluWater Blu Fusion (formerly ISIS) is an electrolytic bromine generator. You add sodium bromide salt to your spa water as a one-time priming step, then the generator's titanium cell continuously converts that dissolved salt into active bromine as water passes through. The topside controller lets you set output level based on bather load and conditions. Unlike tablet systems, there are no tablets to handle, no solid chemical residue, and bromine production is automatic. The result is consistently sanitized water with fewer chemical spikes and a softer feel. The unit is dual voltage (115V/230V) and compatible with most spa control systems.
What bromine level should I maintain in my spa?
The recommended bromine level for a spa or hot tub is 3–5 ppm (parts per million) under normal use conditions. During heavy use or after a spa party, you may need to shock the water to temporarily raise levels to 10 ppm to eliminate combined bromine (bromamines). Unlike chlorine, bromine remains effective at the higher water temperatures of spas (100–104°F), and used bromine can be reactivated by shocking — giving bromine-treated water longer sanitation life. Use a reliable test kit or test strips to monitor levels at least twice per week. Always adjust pH to 7.2–7.8 before adjusting bromine, as pH affects sanitizer effectiveness significantly.
Can I use the Gecko in.Clear with my existing spa controller?
The Gecko in.Clear is designed specifically for spas equipped with Gecko control systems (in.ye, in.ye-2, in.touch, and similar Gecko platforms). It connects directly to the Gecko communications bus and appears as a controlled output on the existing topside panel — no separate controller needed. If your spa uses a non-Gecko control system (Balboa, Jacuzzi J-400, Sundance, etc.), the in.Clear is not compatible and you should consider the BluWater Blu Fusion models instead, which operate as standalone units with their own topside. Contact our team with your spa brand and control model to confirm compatibility.
